Know Your Wire Type & Diameter

The most important spec is your wire diameter, because it determines the energy (joules) your welder needs. As a rule of thumb:

Wire DiameterAWGEnergy NeededRecommended Model
0.1 - 0.3 mm36-28 AWG10-30 JTC-100H Horizontal
0.3 - 0.8 mm28-20 AWG30-80 JTC-100H / TC-300A
0.8 - 1.5 mm20-16 AWG80-150 JTC-300A / TC-100B
1.5 - 3.0 mm16-8 AWG150-300 JTC-300A / TC-100B
2.0 - 4.0 mm (pins)Ignition pins100-200 JTC-100H Horizontal

Also consider your thermocouple type: K, J, T, E, and N types are base metals and weld easily with CD. R, S, and B types are platinum-rhodium and require TIG welding with argon shielding for best results.

CD vs TIG: Choose Your Welding Technology

There are two main technologies for thermocouple welding. Here's how to choose:

Capacitive Discharge (CD)

Best for: Fine wires (0.1-1.5mm), high volume, fast cycle times

  • 0.5-2 seconds per weld
  • No shielding gas needed
  • Highly repeatable — every weld identical
  • Lower cost ($890-$2,450)
  • Compact benchtop form factor

Models: TC-100H, TC-300A, TC-100H

TIG (Argon Arc)

Best for: Thicker wires (1.0-3.0mm), R/S/B type, high-temp

  • 3-8 seconds per weld
  • Requires argon gas (99.999% purity)
  • Larger weld bead, visually inspectable
  • Higher cost ($1,950+)
  • Better for precious metal wires

Model: TC-100B

Determine Your Production Volume

Your daily/weekly weld count determines whether you need a benchtop unit, an industrial machine, or a fully automated line:

Low Volume50 - 200TC-100H + fixture$1,200 - $1,800
Medium Volume200 - 1,000TC-300A Industrial$2,450 - $3,500

Check Compliance Requirements

Different industries and markets have specific compliance requirements. Make sure your machine meets them:

  • North America (US/Canada): UL 61010-1 listing required. All WelderPro models are UL-listed.
  • European Union: CE marking (LVD + EMC directives) and RoHS compliance mandatory. All models carry CE.
  • Aerospace: AS9100 documentation and full traceability. We provide material certs and process documentation.
  • Automotive: IATF 16949 compliance, PPAP Level 3 documentation. Available on request.
  • HVAC/Gas Appliances: UL 372 certification for ignition-related components. Our TC-100H meets this standard.
  • Battery/EV: UN 38.3 documentation for transport of battery-related welded assemblies.

Set Your Budget & ROI Target

WelderPro machines are priced 40-60% below comparable AMADA and OMEGA equipment, without compromising on quality. Here's how to think about ROI:

For most buyers, the TC-100H pays for itself in 2-3 months compared to outsourcing thermocouple junction welding. The TC-300A with its recipe storage and PLC integration is the right choice when you need to document and repeat welds across operators and shifts.

Quick Decision Chart

  • Fine wire (0.1-1.0mm), lab/low volume, budget-conscious → TC-100H Horizontal
  • Fine-to-medium wire (0.1-2.0mm), production line, need recipes → TC-300A
  • Ignition pins for HVAC/gas appliances → TC-100H Horizontal
  • Thick wire (1.0-3.0mm) or R/S/B type thermocouples → TC-100B Butt-Weld
  • 5,000+ welds per day, need automation → TC-300A Auto Line
